Residential Youth Counselor
Canaan, NY | Multiple Evening Shifts
Sunday-Wednesday 12pm- 10pm | Sunday-Wednesday 10pm-8am
Direct Hire | $21.50/HR
A youth services program in Canaan, NY is seeking compassionate and dependable Residential Youth Counselors to help support adolescents in a structured, non-secure detention setting. In this role, you will supervise daily activities, mentor youth, and help create a safe, stable, and therapeutic environment that encourages positive growth and accountability.
This position is ideal for individuals interested in human services, psychology, social work, criminal justice, or youth advocacy.
What You'll Do

Provide daily supervision, guidance, and mentorship to youth

Model positive behavior and conflict-resolution strategies
-
Support youth in developing life skills, emotional regulation, and accountability
-
Maintain a safe and structured environment within the residence
-
Collaborate with case managers, probation officers, educators, and mental health professionals

Document incidents and daily activities accurately

Assist with meal preparation and general household tasks
-
Transport youth to appointments, programs, and community activities

Support program policies and participate in quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications
-
High School Diploma or GED required
-
One year of experience working with youth in group homes, residential programs, shelters, detention settings, or similar environments
OR -
Associate’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field

Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history
-
Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Training Provided

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
-
First Aid / CPR
-
Medication Administration certification
